Good Design Is When You Stop Noticing It

The interface looked fine. But it was asking me to think too much.

The Moment

The interface looked acceptable, but using it required more effort than expected. I found myself pausing to locate information and think through simple actions. The friction was subtle, but consistent.

The Tension

This type of issue is not immediately visible. A design can appear complete while still creating unnecessary cognitive load. The challenge is recognising that something feels heavier than it should, even when nothing is clearly broken.

What I Did and Changed

I shifted the focus from how things looked to how they were experienced. Information was placed closer to where decisions were made. Inputs were simplified. Elements that did not directly support the flow were removed.

The Insight

Good design reduces effort. It allows users to act without having to think unnecessarily.

Broad Reflection

Design is not about presentation alone. It is about enabling action. When it works well, it becomes almost invisible, allowing the experience to feel natural.
